It was honestly a miracle that Ren still had some semblance of sanity left. As the captain of the King's Guard, it was his job to watch over the king and make sure that he was safe. Such a thing was rather difficult when the person whom he was supposed to be protecting had a habit of disappearing from the palace on frequent occasions. Not only did it make Ren nervous as to where the King of Velderoth could have possibly ended up, but it made everyone else uneasy. Even Aran Magna of the Aven Guarde got on edge whenever his brother was absent for extended periods of time. And he could't exactly blame him, either. If Sanford ever went missing, he wouldn't exactly be calm about it, either.
"Forgive my ignorance, my lord, but I really don't think you should be leaving the palace without telling anyone where you are."
The captain had just spotted Ryu with his gryphon on a lone island overlooking the Shrine below.
"Relax, Ren." Ryu said, smiling. "I'm still alive, aren't I?"
Ren mentally facepalmed. 'That's beside the point...' Beside him, Incendium snorted, conveying his master's own feelings as the great red beast settled into a comfortable position on the ground beside the king's gryphon, Kanta. "With all due respect, my lord, this is an unhealthy habit. If disorder arises, we won't be able to spend the time searching for you."
Ren was about to add to his speech when the shadow of another dragon passed overhead, and Aran dropped from the sky, landing mere seconds before his companion. "Ren has a point, Ryu." The man approached the two, looking a lot less than happy. Dissectum decided to remain standing, rather than joining the other two beasts on the ground. "As capable as I know you are, we can't afford the time to hunt you down to make sure you aren't being perused."
Ryu sighed and returned his gaze to the Shrine. "My apologies." He said queitly. "But my mind has been preoccupied."
It seemed as if the other two knew what he was referring to, and both looked towards the horizon where the landscape seemed darker compared to the rest of the landscape.
"It's growing again?" Ren said, his face voice of emotion.
"Yeah. I saw it this morning."
"There's something going on over in Tenebris." Aran crossed his arms over his chest. "But there's no way to get inside. No sane creature will go near the damn place and anyone that has managed to get inside hasn't returned."
"Looks like we'll have to wait and see what it does." Ryu said. "Not that we have much of a choice, anyways."
